On Friday, a custom-made, 2,000 horsepower Toyota Land Cruiser reached a GPS-verified and video-documented 230.02 mph before running out of usable pavement. Dubbed the Land Speed Cruiser (see video below), the record was obtained with NASCAR driver Carl Edwards at the helm. The previous record was held by Brabus, whose Bi-Turbo V12 Mercedes GLK reached 211 mph.
"This was an aspirational goal that inspired us all," said Steve Appelbaum, Toyota Motor Sales national engagement marketing manager.
In other news, one of your mom's favorite cars -- the Toyota Camry -- has also received an edgy face lift.
