Success on television shopping networks like QVC is akin to The Hunger Games movies.
"There are 600 people a week that want to go on QVC," said celebrity chef Steve DiFillippo, CEO/Chef of Davio's, who frequently sells pre-made spring roles on QVC. "You really have to have a good product and sell it."
He said the networks may require you to sell 2,000 units of your product and if consumers aren't attracted to your product, you may be left with excess inventory on your hands. Not to mention, a failed appearance on QVC, usually won't result in an invitation to return to the network.
DiFillippo can sell over 100,000 spring roles on QVC in a matter of minutes.
Even if you're not lucky enough to showcase your product in front of a national television audience, DiFillippo has some advice for small business owners: surround yourself with the right people.
"Surround yourself with really, really hardworking people," he said. "I find the harder I work, the luckier I get."
