The Walt Disney Co. (DIS) is continuing to see success with its latest film, Beauty and the Beast, a live action remake of the beloved 1991 animated feature, which will surpass $1 billion at the global box office this week.

On Tuesday the film, starring Emma Watson as Belle and directed by Bill Condon, grossed $9.7 million. That brought Beauty and the Beast's worldwide box office to $993.2 million. Its overseas success is being led by China.

After Alice in Wonderland, Beauty and the Beast is the second of Disney's live action re-makes to earn over $1 billion, Hollywood Reporter says. Of the 29 movies to earn more than $1 billion, Disney can claim 14.
