We're not exactly sure why you would need laser lights on a car.

But it sounds cool, doesn't it?

At the New York International Auto Show on Wednesday, Volkswagen's (VLKAY) Audi unveiled the 2018 R8 V10 that boasts laser lights, a feature not seen on any other Audi vehicle.

If you're confused, here's exactly what Audi said in the press release:

"An identifying characteristic of the laser headlights is their blue light signature in the headlight housing. The laser beam pattern, which is active at speeds of 40 mph and above (when conditions permit), supplements the LED high beam and greatly enhances visibility for the driver by projecting a low and wide beam of light on the road ahead."

Here's an even more jaw dropping feature: it's price.

The coupe version starts at $164,900.
