The athleticwear maker unveiled Project Rock Delta on Wednesday, a training sneaker that is "inspired" by Johnson's "grueling" training sessions." Under Armour says the sneakers have special cushioning to absorb intense impact and also offer extended ankle support. The sneakers go on sale Wednesday for $139.99.
According to a statement from Under Armour on Thursday, sales of the "Rock Delta trainer have been through the roof, necessitating restocks worldwide." Under Armour says it's the company's fast-selling shoe of 2017.
The World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE - Get Report) talent turn movie star has proven he has a knack for moving a good bit of clothing and backpacks since Under Armour signed him to an endorsement deal in January 2016. In large part, that has been due to the Johnson's huge social media presence, which includes more than 82 million Instagram followers and 11 million Twitter followers.
To be sure, Under Armour could use whatever magic The Rock has at his disposal.
Under Armour's stock has fallen about 51% over the past year, as retail headwinds like the closure of The Sports Authority and the subsequent liquidation sales that flooded the market with discounted items, took a toll on the company's bottom line in the fourth quarter. The company broke its own impressive streak of 26 consecutive quarters of at least 20% revenue growth, reporting growth of just 12% in the fourth quarter.
