President Donald Trump has a penchant for bringing in CEOs to talk items like business, regulation and trade, and on Tuesday, he's bringing in his biggest group of chief executives yet.
The president hosted a town hall with dozens of CEOs late-morning Tuesday to discuss the American business climate. Administration members Gary Cohn, Elaine Chao, Christopher Liddell, Wilbur Ross, Ivanka Trump and Dina Powell were in attendance, as well as House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy and some 50 business leaders.
Stephen Schwarzman, chairman and CEO of Blackstone (BX - Get Report) with a close relationship to Trump, will co-chair the event alongside Citigroup C CEO Michael Corbat. Also slated to attend are MasterCard's (MA - Get Report) Ajay Banga, JetBlue's (JBLU - Get Report) Robin Hayes and HSBC's (HSBC Patrick Burke. Billionaire investor John Paulson, who served as an economic adviser to Trump's presidential campaign, is on the list as well. Real estate executives from companies including Vornado Realty Trust, Rudin Management and Tishman Speyer are also well represented on the list.
Before Trump's arrival, Vice President Mike Pence introduced him as "committed to being the best friend business has ever had in the White House."
Trump addressed the group and commented on a number of matters, including the regulatory process in New York real estate, the possibilities of an infrastructure bill of "maybe more" than a trillion dollars, education policy, health care and tax reform.
The president gave a salute to his daughter, who announced plans to join her father's administration last week, and all of the "killers from New York" in attendance.
White House officials said the town hall on "unleashing American business" was an opportunity for Trump, Ivanka and his administration to discuss "policies that will help create a pro-business climate with CEOs and business leaders from many different industries."
The president, who ran as a populist, nationalist, anti-Wall Street candidate, at Tuesday's event said his administration will do a "very major haircut" on crisis-era financial legislation Dodd-Frank.
"You're my friends, you're amazing people, and we're going to put you to work," he said as he closed his remarks. Tuesday's town hall was comprised of four panels on infrastructure, modernizing government services, workforce development and a pro-business climate.
Trump has met with dozens of executives since his inauguration, often bringing them into the White House in small groups to discuss matters like technology, deregulation and women in business in an effort to position himself as a champion of business in Washington and a listener.
