The data breach at Yahoo! (YHOO)  which compromised over 500 million user accounts was done using spear phishing, the fraudulent technique of sending emails ostensibly from a known or trusted sender, the FBI suggested.

The hackers were able to use spear phishing to gain a Yahoo employee's credentials, FBI agent Malcolm Palmore told Ars Technica
