Gap Names Mark Breitbard as Banana Republic Chief

Apparel retail giant Gap (GPS) has named former Gymboree CEO Mark Breitbard as the chief executive of its Banana Republic unit.

The move comes as the company tries to make its Gap and Banana Republic segments as successful as its Old Navy business. Gap is one of many brick and mortar retailers struggling to keep shoppers in stores as more consumers switch to online shopping.

"Mark brings significant retail leadership experience to Gap Inc., along with deep knowledge of the company and our customer," Gap CEO Art Peck said. "We know what Banana Republic is capable of, and Mark's ability to drive transformation and innovation will help revitalize the brand and position it to achieve its long-term potential."
