American Home Products (AHP) said it earned 55 cents a share in the first quarter, which was in line with analysts' expectations.

The drugmaker said revenue rose 7.9% to $3.45 billion from $3.19 billion. Human pharmaceuticals revenue climbed 12% to $2.72 billion from a year earlier, while animal health products revenue slipped 4% to $162.3 million. Consumer health care, which includes products like the painkiller Advil, fell 4% to $569.9 million.
