New year, same Trump: Tweet and watch the markets go berserk. New year, same question: when will the Dow hit the 20,000 mark?

The news cycle Tuesday, Jan. 3, was certainly dominated with news out of Camp Trump. "News" may be a strong word, but the President-elect's Twitter (TWTR - Get Report) handle continued to make waves, taking aim at the Affordable Care Act and also companies looking to move or build up operations abroad. Trump's latest victim was General Motors  (GM - Get Report) , which saw its shares fluctuate greatly after he slammed the automaker via Twitter for manufacturing its Cruze vehicle in Mexico. Another auto maker, Ford (F - Get Report) , coincidentally, announced Tuesday that it would cancel plans to build a $1.6 billion plant in Mexico. But did you notice that the confluence of auto news sent shares of shipper Kansas City Southern  (KSU - Get Report) tumbling given its exposure to the U.S.-Mexican border?

Still, indexes ended Tuesday, the 40th anniversary of Apple's (AAPL - Get Report)  official incorporation, in the green across the board as Trump continued to nominate advisers to his cabinet and the dollar continued its rally since the election. But that wasn't all TheStreet and its affiliates were digging in to on the first day of trading in the New Year.
