SAN CLEMENTE, Calif., Nov. 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- " In Your Right Mind," a new weekly behavioral health radio program that features in-depth roundtable discussions of today's behavioral health headlines, aired an important show on personality traits and addiction on Sunday, Nov. 20, on Talk Radio 790 AM KABC in Los Angeles. During the program, " 4 Personality Traits = Addiction," the show's roundtable panel discussed a controversial new theory on four different traits in adolescents that may create pathways for addiction. "In Your Right Mind" is co-hosted by Program Producer Kristina Kuestner and Dr. Tonmoy Sharma, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sovereign Health, who provides in-depth medical and clinical expertise. Sunday's panel included guest speakers Dawn Maxwell, addiction counselor; Dr. Natalie Castellanos-Ryan, adolescence researcher; Barbara Theodosiou, the founder of the international group The Addict's Mom (TAM); Dr. Blair Mor, an addiction psychologist; and Maia Szalavitz, writer/recovering addict. As discussed during Sunday's show, the Substance Use Risk Profile measures personality traits linked to substance use profiles. The four traits include sensation-seeking, impulsiveness, anxiety sensitivity and hopelessness. During the show, Ms. Szalavitz explained why there isn't just one type of addictive personality trait. "The idea of the addictive personality has sort of been this idea of this one personality that all people with addiction had and it's been a very negative idea because it's like they're all liars, they're all manipulators, they're all people who are kind of nasty. In reality, this is not what you see among people with addiction. Certainly, people with addiction lie to hide their addiction, sometimes, but so do people who are having affairs. It doesn't mean you are a liar through and through."
