NEW YORK (TheStreet) --French politician Marine Le Pen wants to return France to the French people. Leader of the country's far-right Front National party, she has called for immigrants to submit to French culture, the return of a domestic French currency, a crackdown on immigration and is a noted Eurozone skeptic.

Le Pen is a candidate for President in the 2017 French election taking place on April 23. She sat down with CNBC's Michelle Caruso-Cabrera in Paris to discuss the ramifications of a Donald Trump presidency.

"I am very happy about the election of Donald Trump," Le Pen said. "The choice of the American people was courageous and advantageous."

She says the election of Trump will help America to restore its image, which became "very damaged" under the former administration.

"The U.S. cannot have the image of war mongers," Le Pen stated. "That the U.S. has regained an image as an organization of peace [and that] is beneficial for us all."

Furthermore, Le Pen says the Donald Trump victory is indicative of the negative sentiment regarding the elites.

"Whether it is the election of Donald Trump or Brexit, the elites have realized that the people have stopped listening to them," Le Pen said.

She argued that the people want to determine their own futures and "in a perfectly democratic framework" take back control of their destiny.

"[The elites] are losing the power that they have given themselves," Le Pen said.
