SAN CLEMENTE, Calif., Nov. 18, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- " In Your Right Mind," a new weekly behavioral health radio program that features in-depth roundtable discussions of today's behavioral health headlines, is set to air its second episode on Sunday, November 20 on Talk Radio 790 AM KABC in Los Angeles. The program, "4 Personality Traits = Addiction," will air at a special time: 2 to 3 p.m. PST. The program is co-hosted by Program Producer Kristina Kuestner and Dr. Tonmoy Sharma, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sovereign Health, who provides in-depth medical and clinical expertise. The goal of "In Your Right Mind," produced in conjunction with Sovereign Health, is to raise public awareness and to get people talking about pertinent issues surrounding today's mental health and substance abuse epidemics.
Sunday's program will explore a controversial new theory that focuses on four different traits in adolescents that may create pathways for addiction. The Substance Use Risk Profile measures traits linked to substance use profiles. The four traits include sensation-seeking, impulsiveness, anxiety sensitivity and hopelessness. Some believe that by focusing on these certain personality traits, anti-drug programs can look at the individual, rather than generalizing the addiction problem. "If you think about it, a person who is really anxious and withdrawn is not going to respond the same way as the person who is really outgoing and seeking all kinds of things, like roller coasters. Those are opposite traits. There are people who use drugs because they feel hopeless and as though nothing will be good for them and they find that drugs help that. Then, there are other people who use drugs because they just want to hype things up because they're feeling nothing rather than feeling too much," explains writer/recovering addict, Maia Szalavitz.
