It goes without saying that Macy's and Donald Trump no longer have an amicable relationship. Last year, Trump asked his social media followers to boycott Macy's after the department store announced it would discontinue its Donald Trump line of menswear as a result of Trump's derogatory comments about Mexican immigrants. Since that initial call to boycott on July 1, 2015, Trump has tweeted or retweeted 34 anti-Macy's tweets.
From Brian Sozzi's recent article, "He has been far quieter this year, only tweeting about Macy's once -- it was a post in January pointing out Macy's 46% stock price plunge in 2015."
Sozzi goes on to point out reasons why Macy's shares have dropped could have been just a coincidence, including one of the warmest winters in history that would have hurt outerwear and winter apparel sales. Macy's previously sold an assortment of Donald Trump apparel and accessories, including his ties (assuming the more widely cut ones based on Trump's preferences over the election cycle) and Trump's colognes, called "Empire" and "Success." Now what pray tell, does an Empire smell like? From Trump's merchandise website:
"Empire by Trump is the perfect accessory for the confident man determined to make his mark with passion, perseverance and drive. For those who aspire to create their own empire through personal achievement, this dynamic scent is both compelling and leaves a lasting impression. Bold notes of peppermint, spicy chai and a hint of apple demand attention."
As a former copywriter who has been tasked with writing perfume descriptions before, I know it's difficult not to make the description sound cheesy, but this takes the cake. If you want to reek like success, then Trump also has the cologne for you! This, also, from Trump's merchandise website:
