TORONTO, Nov. 14, 2016 /CNW/ - In the final day of dairy competition at The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, a Jersey cow named Musqie Iatola Martha was named Grand Champion Jersey and a half hour later she strutted away with the Supreme Championship for the second year in a row. After several days of competition, the Quality Seeds sponsored event is the pinnacle of the Royal Dairy Show. "We love The Royal - we just love coming here," enthused one of Martha's owners, Jim Ostrom, after his cow won Grand Champion. Following the conclusion of the Supreme Championship, his love of The Royal increased even more! "Winning at The Royal raises the notoriety of our cows and we have become better known in the industry," Ostrom says. His farm, Milksource Genetics of Kaukauna, WI, exhibits at The Royal every year and frequently goes home with a collection of ribbons. In 2015, Martha won Supreme Champion and Ostrom says that win made a huge difference to their operation. "After winning last year at The Royal, we became better known overseas and we were able to sell some embryos." There's no need to speculate over what Martha's second win might do for Milksource's reputation. "The people in the barn here are some of the best dairymen in the world and it's great to be in that company," Ostrom says of his Royal experience. Certainly, winning Supreme Champion two years in a row has placed Ostrom and his team in the "top dairymen" category.
