PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 10, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Philadelphia Boys Choir & Chorale's annual holiday concert is always a highly anticipated event and a memorable occasion, but this year will be special in a new way. When the Choir takes the stage for their series of three "Sing, Choirs of Angels" concerts they will be performing for more than their usual audience. This year, a portion of the proceeds from the holiday concert ticket sales will go to HELP USA which, together with the Philadelphia Housing Authority (PHA), is converting the former Spring Garden School into 37 units of affordable housing for low-income seniors and veterans - twelve of which will be occupied by homeless veterans. Said PBCC's executive director Stephan Stoeckl, "This project is something that hits home for us on so many levels. As an organization based on Spring Garden street, they are our neighbors. But more than that, those that will be helped by this initiative are the veterans that put their lives in danger every day, keeping America safe for all of us. How could we NOT help them out?" Vacant for four decades, the Spring Garden School conversion will be HELP USA's fifth site in Philadelphia. The organization has been working in the region for more than 20 years. Stated Senior Vice President of Real Estate Development at HELP, David Cleghorn, "We are proud to be renovating this beautiful historic building. It has been an eyesore and a drag on the area for too many years. This project represents the best of what we and our partners do - creating affordable apartments for homeless veterans and low-income seniors while preserving a landmark and helping a neighborhood."
