CHAPEL HILL, N.C., Nov. 10, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Performance Bicycle, the No. 1 choice for people who love to ride, partnered with the American Cancer Society (ACS) to raise $42,382 that will be used to fund the ACS's efforts to prevent, detect and treat breast cancer. Funds were raised through a mix of individual in-store and online donations, the purchase of pink wristbands, 10% of sales from limited edition products and a matching gift from Performance Bicycle. All funds raised went directly to the American Cancer Society and are almost double those raised by Performance in 2015.
Performance matched $10,000 of customer donations and donated several more thousand from the sales of limited-edition Performance Men's and Women's Breast Cancer Awareness cycling jerseys and the Spin Doctor pink bicycle pump. The limited edition product will be for sale until supplies last. Performance will continue to donate 10% of sales from these items until all are sold. As part of its breast cancer awareness initiative, Performance Bicycle hosted its second annual "A Great Ride For A Great Cause" national bike ride on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016. This year's event saw a 54% increase in participation over last year's event. "A Great Ride For A Great Cause" is part of Performance Bicycle's nationwide Great Ride Series group rides. "We were so glad to have raised so much for the ACS's fight against breast cancer. We're thankful to all of our customers and associates who contributed and helped raise awareness," said Performance Bicycle Director of Community Relations Chris London. "We all have some connection to this disease, and everybody who helped, no matter how big or small, made an important contribution to help further the ACS's fight to eradicate breast cancer."
