Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a common complication following total joint replacement procedures. This condition includes both DVT, a blood clot in a deep vein in the lower extremities; and pulmonary embolism (PE), where the blood clot becomes dislodged and migrates to the lungs. An estimated 1 million hip and knee replacements are performed in the U.S. annually, primarily in patients over the age of 50 years old. Studies have found that this age group is disproportionately affected by VTE. The new results will showcase the platform's effectiveness at reducing the risk of VTE while simultaneously reducing the risk of costly readmissions and complications, such as major bleeding and infections often associated with anticoagulants together with increased patient satisfaction.
