SOLON, Ohio, Sept. 17, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Energy Focus, Inc. (NASDAQ:EFOI), a leader in LED lighting technologies, announced today that its first commercial installation of tubular LEDs ("TLED") has reached a 5-year anniversary with a leading precision machine parts manufacturer. With a performance reliability rate of 99.8%, the TLED retrofit over fluorescent lights is a first of its kind among major LED lighting manufacturers. The retrofit took place at the world headquarters and manufacturing complex of Truline Industries, whose clients include some of the largest aerospace conglomerates such as Boeing, Airbus, United Technologies and Eaton.

Truline, the world's leading supplier of fuel pump bearings, maintains extremely rigorous standards of quality control as the parts are critical to the performance of virtually every aircraft in operation today. Energy Focus's TLEDs have not only helped the company reach its advanced sustainability goals through significant lighting energy reductions and improved operational efficiency, but have also enhanced the well-being of the employees in the facility through brighter, flicker-free and smoother light.

Furthermore, thanks to the higher efficiency of Energy Focus' TLEDs versus fluorescent, the facility naturally holds cooler temperatures, creating a more comfortable work environment and reducing air-conditioning needs for Truline employees. Lastly, Truline virtually eliminated the need for labor costs of frequent lamp replacements associated with fluorescent lighting, as a mere 2 out of 930 TLEDs burnt out during the first 5 years.

"The team at Energy Focus made our selection and transition from fluorescent lighting to tubular LEDs a simple one five years ago," said Stuart Watson, President of Truline Industries. "Both energy efficiency and the quality of our lighting in our offices and manufacturing facilities were greatly improved as a result of the replacement of fluorescent lights by Energy Focus' TLEDs. It's been one of the best decisions we've made in our ongoing commitment to the environment, as well as to our employees."

"We are thrilled to report this industry-leading performance and reliability milestone, especially given the relatively short time that TLED lighting has been available commercially," stated James Tu, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Energy Focus, Inc. "With approximately a 1% penetration rate of TLED lighting in fluorescent sockets in the United States at the end of 2014 based on the Department of Energy's latest estimate, Truline was certainly a pioneering adopter of this impactful energy-saving technology, and we are proud and grateful that they entrusted Energy Focus as their LED lighting technology partner. The success of their lighting upgrade, and their evangelical enthusiasm about Energy Focus and our products, are a strong and compelling testimonial to retrofit fluorescent sockets with Energy Focus TLEDs."

The companies marked the TLED installation milestone with a joint-issued Customer Success Story video, which can be viewed here. Truline installed 117 TLEDs in their office area, 806 TLEDs in their manufacturing plant and 7 landscape floodlights in the exterior of the building—all from Energy Focus—in August 2010.
