Trina Solar (TSL) Stock Gains on Earnings Beat

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Shares of Trina Solar (TSL) were gaining 12.7% to $12.46 Thursday after the solar power company beat analysts' estimates for earnings and revenue in the first quarter.

Trina Solar reported earnings of 16 cents a share for the first quarter, above analysts' estimates of 9 cents a share for the first quarter. Revenue grew 25.5% year over year to $558.09 million for the quarter, above analysts' estimates of $509.35 million.

The company shipped 1.1 GW of worth of modules in the first quarter. Trina Solar expects to ship between 1.1 GW and 1.14 GW of solar modules in the second quarter.

About 2.7 million shares of Trina Solar were traded by 10:10 a.m. Thursday, above the company's average trading volume of about 2.5 million shares a day.
