Facebook's News Offering Is Nothing the Media Need to Fear

NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- News publishers have much bigger worries than Facebook (FB).

When reports emerged this week that Facebook will directly host stories from nine major news organizations, including New York Times (NYT) and Comcast's (CMCSA) NBC News, some loud opposition erupted in media circles.

But a dispassionate analysis of the arrangement produces a different conclusion: the critics doth protest too much. As hard as it may be to side with the Internet's behemoth, it's actually a good deal for news organizations, not to mention Facebook and news readers.

This article is commentary by an independent contributor. At the time of publication, the author held positions in Facebook and Comcast.
