INDIANAPOLIS, April 23, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Spartan Emergency Response, a business unit of Spartan Motors, Inc. (Nasdaq:SPAR) ("Spartan"), announced today that Wes Chestnut, Group Lead of Product Compliance at Spartan and a 20-year veteran of the fire service, was recently named co-chair of the Fire Apparatus Manufacturers' Association (FAMA) technical committee.

"We are extremely proud of all of the accomplishments and recognition Wes Chestnut has received throughout his 16 years of service with Spartan," said Daryl Adams, President and CEO of Spartan Motors, Inc. "Wes plays a critical role within the company, as well as the entire fire service community. He is tasked with maintaining regular communication with federal regulatory bodies, and ensuring Spartan's compliance is met and maintained throughout all facets of the organization."

As co-chair of the technical committee, Chestnut will provide guidance and represent member organizations on technical issues with the goal of constant improvement to fire apparatus and user safety. This role could include interacting with federal agencies or with development of standards through associations such as the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA).

In 2014, Chestnut was named the recipient of the FAMA Technical Committee Chairman's Award for his engagement with the EPA as it moves into Phase II of the greenhouse gas and fuel economy regulations. Chestnut has previously provided leadership to the Chassis subcommittee for FAMA, keeping the organization ahead of new government regulations.

In his 16 years with Spartan, Chestnut has been responsible with interacting with federal agencies like the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in addition to his regular communication with FAMA and NFPA.
