STOCKS TO BUY: TheStreet Quant Ratings has identified a handful of stocks that can potentially TRIPLE in the next 12 months. Learn more.

TheStreet Ratings rates RLJ Entertainment as a sell. The company's weaknesses can be seen in multiple areas, such as its generally high debt management risk, disappointing return on equity, poor profit margins, feeble growth in its earnings per share and generally disappointing historical performance in the stock itself.

Highlights from TheStreet Ratings analysis on RLJE go as follows:

  • Although RLJE's debt-to-equity ratio of 2.15 is very high, it is currently less than that of the industry average.
  • The company's current return on equity has slightly decreased from the same quarter one year prior. This implies a minor weakness in the organization. Compared to other companies in the Media industry and the overall market, RLJ ENTERTAINMENT INC's return on equity significantly trails that of both the industry average and the S&P 500.
  • The gross profit margin for RLJ ENTERTAINMENT INC is rather low; currently it is at 24.17%. It has decreased from the same quarter the previous year. Along with this, the net profit margin of -21.00% is significantly below that of the industry average.
  • RLJ ENTERTAINMENT INC reported flat earnings per share in the most recent quarter. The company has reported a trend of declining earnings per share over the past two years. During the past fiscal year, RLJ ENTERTAINMENT INC reported poor results of -$2.30 versus -$0.49 in the prior year.
  • RLJE's stock share price has done very poorly compared to where it was a year ago: Despite any rallies, the net result is that it is down by 57.70%, which is also worse than the performance of the S&P 500 Index. Naturally, the overall market trend is bound to be a significant factor. However, in one sense, the stock's sharp decline last year is a positive for future investors, making it cheaper (in proportion to its earnings over the past year) than most other stocks in its industry. But due to other concerns, we feel the stock is still not a good buy right now.

STOCKS TO BUY: TheStreet Quant Ratings has identified a handful of stocks that can potentially TRIPLE in the next 12 months. Learn more.

TheStreet Ratings rates VirtualScopics as a sell. The company's weaknesses can be seen in multiple areas, such as its deteriorating net income, disappointing return on equity, poor profit margins, weak operating cash flow and generally disappointing historical performance in the stock itself.

Highlights from TheStreet Ratings analysis on VSCP go as follows:

  • The company, on the basis of change in net income from the same quarter one year ago, has significantly underperformed when compared to that of the S&P 500 and the Life Sciences Tools & Services industry. The net income has significantly decreased by 27.3% when compared to the same quarter one year ago, falling from -$0.75 million to -$0.96 million.
  • Return on equity has greatly decreased when compared to its ROE from the same quarter one year prior. This is a signal of major weakness within the corporation. Compared to other companies in the Life Sciences Tools & Services industry and the overall market, VIRTUALSCOPICS INC's return on equity significantly trails that of both the industry average and the S&P 500.
  • The gross profit margin for VIRTUALSCOPICS INC is currently lower than what is desirable, coming in at 33.86%. It has decreased from the same quarter the previous year. Along with this, the net profit margin of -34.87% is significantly below that of the industry average.
  • Net operating cash flow has significantly decreased to -$0.42 million or 200.00% when compared to the same quarter last year. In addition, when comparing to the industry average, the firm's growth rate is much lower.
  • Reflecting the weaknesses we have cited, including the decline in the company's earnings per share, VSCP has underperformed the S&P 500 Index, declining 13.20% from its price level of one year ago. The fact that the stock is now selling for less than others in its industry in relation to its current earnings is not reason enough to justify a buy rating at this time.

Dover Saddlery ( DOVR) was another company that pushed the Services sector higher today. Dover Saddlery was up $0.38 (8.4%) to $4.89 on light volume. Throughout the day, 1,020 shares of Dover Saddlery exchanged hands as compared to its average daily volume of 2,400 shares. The stock ranged in a price between $4.53-$4.89 after having opened the day at $4.55 as compared to the previous trading day's close of $4.51.

Shares are down 7.0% year-to-date as of the close of trading on Monday. Currently there are no analysts who rate Dover Saddlery a buy, no analysts rate it a sell, and none rate it a hold.

TheStreet Ratings rates Dover Saddlery as a hold. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its revenue growth, reasonable valuation levels and expanding profit margins. However, as a counter to these strengths, we also find weaknesses including feeble growth in the company's earnings per share, unimpressive growth in net income and generally higher debt management risk.

Highlights from TheStreet Ratings analysis on DOVR go as follows:

  • DOVR's revenue growth has slightly outpaced the industry average of 7.3%. Since the same quarter one year prior, revenues slightly increased by 9.1%. This growth in revenue does not appear to have trickled down to the company's bottom line, displayed by a decline in earnings per share.
  • 40.34% is the gross profit margin for DOVER SADDLERY INC which we consider to be strong. It has increased from the same quarter the previous year. Regardless of the strong results of the gross profit margin, the net profit margin of 0.85% trails the industry average.
  • The company's current return on equity has slightly decreased from the same quarter one year prior. This implies a minor weakness in the organization. In comparison to the other companies in the Specialty Retail industry and the overall market, DOVER SADDLERY INC's return on equity is significantly below that of the industry average and is below that of the S&P 500.
  • Net operating cash flow has significantly decreased to -$0.42 million or 172.01% when compared to the same quarter last year. In addition, when comparing to the industry average, the firm's growth rate is much lower.
