Military Advanced Education (MAE) has named Colorado Technical University (CTU) a 'Top School' in its 2015 Guide to Colleges & Universities, which measures best practices in military and veteran education. The program recognizes schools that provide optimal programs, flexibility, and support services for military members and their families.

"We're proud to be recognized as a Top School by Military Advanced Education," said Andrew H. Hurst, university president of CTU. "Military service members make sacrifices when they choose to serve our country and many put their careers and educational goals on hold. We develop programs and services for our military and veteran students and their spouses to enable their success in the classroom and civilian careers."

Selection Process

In order to be considered a 'Top School', an institution must meet certain requirements and provide specific types of support for military students. At CTU, this includes having a dedicated support team that carefully explains to students their military education benefits and financial aid options and assists them in accessing those benefits.

In addition, CTU recognizes the value of practical learning experiences and has a generous transfer of credit policy that awards credit for what students have learned during their military service. CTU also offer grants for veterans and well as special tuition rates for spouses and active duty military members, and the University supports military students with a deployment friendly policy for both our online and ground campus students.

Another way CTU shows its strong support for military personnel, veterans and their families is through the Wounded Warrior Scholarship, which annually awards 25 wounded service members and 25 spouses of wounded service members a full scholarship to CTU. Since 2008, CTU has awarded 350 full scholarships worth nearly $4.5 million dollars.

"We believe the Guide serves as an invaluable tool for both education services officers and transition officers when advising service members about their educational opportunities," said Kelly Fodel, MAE's editor. "We used strict criteria to individually evaluate the submissions of respondents, and we had a record number of schools participating this year."

"Not only is the 2015 Guide printed in our December issue of Military Advanced Education, but also published in a searchable database online," Fodel said. "We designed this database with the military student in mind. We want to help them make informed choices, so we are giving them access to all the survey questions and answers provided by the schools, as well as explanations about critical issues like activation and deployment policies, withdrawal policies, scholarship and financial aid information and important support information."

Continuing a Tradition at CTU

Selection as a Top School in the 2015 MAE Guide to Colleges & Universities is just one of the many acknowledgements CTU has received for supporting military students. For six consecutive years, CTU has also been recognized as a top military-friendly school by Victory Media Inc. - the publishers of G.I. Jobs magazine, Military Spouse magazine and Vetrepreneur magazine . Additionally, the university ranked among the top 20 Military Times "Best of Vets" Online and Traditional Colleges in 2013 and 2014.
