NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Infinity Pharmaceuticals  (INFI) has been upgraded by TheStreet Ratings from Sell to Hold with a ratings score of C-.  TheStreet Ratings Team has this to say about their recommendation:

"We rate INFINITY PHARMACEUTICALS INC (INFI) a HOLD. The primary factors that have impacted our rating are mixed - some indicating strength, some showing weaknesses, with little evidence to justify the expectation of either a positive or negative performance for this stock relative to most other stocks. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its largely solid financial position with reasonable debt levels by most measures, compelling growth in net income and expanding profit margins. However, as a counter to these strengths, we find that the company's return on equity has been disappointing."

Highlights from the analysis by TheStreet Ratings Team goes as follows:

  • The net income growth from the same quarter one year ago has significantly exceeded that of the S&P 500 and the Biotechnology industry. The net income increased by 404.1% when compared to the same quarter one year prior, rising from -$33.94 million to $103.22 million.
  • INFI has no debt to speak of therefore resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of zero, which we consider to be a relatively favorable sign.
  • Compared to where it was 12 months ago, the stock is up, but it has so far lagged the appreciation in the S&P 500. Despite the fact that it has already risen in the past year, there is currently no conclusive evidence that warrants the purchase or sale of this stock.
  • INFINITY PHARMACEUTICALS INC reported significant earnings per share improvement in the most recent quarter compared to the same quarter a year ago. This company has reported somewhat volatile earnings recently. But, we feel it is poised for EPS growth in the coming year. During the past fiscal year, INFINITY PHARMACEUTICALS INC reported poor results of -$2.64 versus -$1.57 in the prior year. This year, the market expects an improvement in earnings (-$0.59 versus -$2.64).
