NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Shares of GT Advanced Technologies (GTAT) rose 2.48% to $12.19 in morning trading Wednesday on speculation that Apple's (AAPL) new iPad devices, which the company could reveal next month, would contain sapphire.
GT Advanced Technologies makes sapphire displays, which many investors expected would make up the screens for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. But the tech giant said at its news conference last Tuesday that the new displays would be "ion strengthened" and made no mention of sapphire displays for the phones during the presentation.
The Apple Watch, however, will feature sapphire displays.GTAT data by YCharts
