Why GT Advanced Technologies (GTAT) Stock Is Down In After-Hours Trading Today

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Shares of GT Advanced Technologies (GTAT) are down 1.26% to $11.73 in after-hours trading as the ramifications of Apple's (APPL)  decision not to use its sapphire glass products for the IPhone 6 continue to affect the stock. Apple has said it will use the glass in the Apple Watch.

GT shares fell approximately 25% following Apple's announcement, the lowest level since May of this year. The company has chosen to use an ionized glass screen with oleophobic coating by Corning (GWL) instead of its sapphire product. The Apple Watch with the sapphire glass screen will be launched early next year.

Shares of the diversified technology company closed the day down 7.33% to $11.88 on very heavy trading volume.
