UPS Announces Two New Dallas-Fort Worth Buildings

DALLAS, Aug. 21, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- UPS (NYSE: UPS) today announced the addition of two new packagedistribution facilities in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Bothbuildings are being leased and modified to serve as distributionfacilities. These new additions to UPS's integrated network addressgrowth in package volume.

"UPS continues to see growth in and around the Dallas-Fort WorthMetroplex," said Craig Wiltz, president of the Red River District."These two new buildings increase our ability to address the rapidexpansion of residential and commercial demand and significantlyincrease our employee base in the area."

One building, nicknamed "Independence," is located in theAlliance development of Fort Worth. It will create more than 300package handler jobs and over 50 tractor trailer driver positions.The 495,000 square-foot building will serve UPS customers in theNorth Tarrant and South Denton counties. 

The Independence facility will feature state-of-the-art packagesorting technology. Computerized planning technology will enableUPS engineers to plan package sorts in multiple configurations.This "smart" building technology provides UPS flexibility tobalance volume surges or other demand changes. 

The second building, located in McKinney, Texas, will bringapproximately 120 new full-time jobs to the area. By 2017, UPS willalso bring over 200 part-time jobs to McKinney.  The 215,000square-foot facility will serve UPS customers in Collin County.

The modifications are expected to be completed in November 2014and the buildings will be operational in time for the holidayseason.  With the addition of these sites, UPS now has eightbuildings serving the Dallas-Fort Worth area with more than 7,500employees.
