NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Sharp Corp. (SHCAY) was selected by SoftBank Corp.  (SFTBF) and its U.S. unit, Sprint Corp. (S) , as their partner to develop low-cost smartphones to broaden their lineup in Japan and the U.S., breathing life into Sharp's fast-dwindling handset operations, the Wall Street Journal reports.
