Why Volkswagen (VLKAY) Stock Is Down Today

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Volkswagen (VLKAY) is recalling about 20,417 Chrysler-built Routan minivans from model year 2009 in the U.S. and Canada, adding to the 2010 models it recalled in 2011 for the same issue, bringing the total number of vehicles affected to about 34,210 vehicles, Reuters reports.

The Routan minivans have ignition switches that can be knocked into the accessory position and shut off the engine, according to documents filed with U.S. safety regulators, Reuters noted.

Volkswagen expanded the recall after Chrysler sent documents for a recall of its own minivans in late June, announcing its 2009 Routan models were affected.

Shares of Volkswagen are down -0.81% to $165.35.
