NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Lions Gate Entertainment (LGF) shares are up 6.3% to $32.32 on Friday after the company reported a first quarter profit of 27 cents per diluted share, 9 cents better than analysts were expecting.

Revenue for the quarter was $449 million, well short of analysts expectations of $489 million, as the film studio had a lighter slate of movies this quarter than they had a year ago.

This is driven by multiple strengths, which we believe should have a greater impact than any weaknesses, and should give investors a better performance opportunity than most stocks we cover. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its good cash flow from operations, expanding profit margins and notable return on equity. We feel these strengths outweigh the fact that the company has had lackluster performance in the stock itself."
