McDonald’s officials have confirmed that the McRib sandwich will be making its triumphant return on Nov. 2.
The elusive sandwich consists of ground pork formed into the shape of a rack of ribs and slathered in barbecue sauce, pickles and onions.
The McRib had multiple limited runs since its introduction in the 1980s, and according to a McDonald’s spokesperson it was last available nationwide in 1994, in conjunction with the Flintstones movie promotion.
Despite a “Farewell Tour” in 2005, it still pops up at assorted McDonald’s locations across the country. Its devoted fans track the sandwich and report sightings at the McRib Locator, and various Facebook fan pages sing its praises. One Facebook user greeted the news by proclaiming that “once again, life is worth living.”
Such passion has evidently been enough to convince McDonald’s to bring the sandwich back for a limited time, as a spokesperson cited the “level of excitement” surrounding the sandwich as the impetus for bringing it back.
While these fans are surely thrilled for the McRib’s return – various Twitter users have expressed elation at the news – they’ll have to get their fix while it lasts. The sandwich will only be in stores for about six weeks. After that it’s back to hunting for the few stores that have it… Or you could just eat actual ribs.
