The position: Deputy Archivist for the U.S. Senate
Location: Washington, D.C.
Job duties: Will evaluate, describe and retrieve official records of the Senate. Duties include advising and assisting in the proper archiving of Senate records. Assists the Senate Archivist in providing information to members, committees and congressional staff regarding the management, preservation and disposition of official records. Ensures timely retrieval of requested information from the Center for Legislative Archives for Senate offices and committees. Evaluates the content of electronic records to determine appropriate disposition procedures. Communicates archival procedures to Senate staff to assist with information and records preservation.
The company: The Office of the Secretary of the Senate is part of the legislative branch of the federal government.
Requirements: Must have a master's degree in library science with a focus on archives management or an advanced degree in archives administration or American history. Requires three to five years experience in the archival field, focusing on collections and records management. Must have demonstrated knowledge of electronic records management and current digital preservation theory and practice. Candidates must be able to positively interact with members and staff at all levels with tact and diplomacy. Knowledge of the Senate legislative process and/or American history is preferred.
