The position: Insect production specialist and research scientist for chemical giant BASF

Location: Research Triangle Park, N.C.

Job duties: Will be a member of the Insect & Plant Production Team, which is responsible for providing insects, plants and related products to researchers in the local area and around the world. Must maintain arthropod species according to established protocol. Will supervise daily insect-related activities including scheduling, preparing artificial diet and managing insects received from outside sources. Job also involves customer relations and coordinating research to improve insect quality or production efficiency. Will supervise various processes in team leader's absence. Duties also include learning plant propagation procedures.

Requirements: Requires college degree — with an advanced degree preferred — in entomology, botany, biology or a related field plus two years of relevant experience, ideally involving insect production and including program management. Experience should include hands-on participation in rearing processes. Must be a self-starter with good problem solving abilities. Effective communication and observation skills are necessary, along with proficiency with Excel and similar computer programs. Prior personnel supervisory experience is a plus, as is experience with greenhouse plant propagation. Experience rearing species from a variety of orders on natural and artificial diets would also be helpful.
