The position: Senior cookbook editor for Random House
Location: Emeryville, Calif.
Job duties: Editor will manage 10 cookbooks per year for Ten Speed Press, a division of the Crown Publishing Group of Random House. Specific duties include establishing a production schedule, performing developmental edits, reviewing the work of editorial freelancers and managing photo shoots. Will also need to write copy for catalogs and book jackets. Will be responsible for acquiring around 10 titles per year, mainly books involving food and wine. Editor will also assist the publisher and editorial director in evaluating potential acquisitions.

Requirements: Must have a minimum of eight years of editorial experience that includes working on complex full-color books. Candidates should have knowledge/experience related to the national food scene — for example, a culinary arts degree or membership in national culinary organizations. Must have extensive book team management experience involving designers, writers and photographers. Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must. Requires expertise and experience in taking large, complicated projects from concept through publication. Prefer candidates with at least two years of acquisition experience with a proven sales record, plus an existing network of agent and author contacts.
