Some of comedy’s greatest presidential impersonators come together in a video in support of the creation of a Consumer Financial Protection Agency.
It’s probably the most star-studded Funny Or Die video to date. The comedy portal founded by Will Ferrell is full of funny videos, and occasionally gets political, but their latest offering breaks new ground: it’s squarely aimed at the President and it’s all about consumer protection. Here’s the lineup.
- Fred Armisen as Barack Obama
- Maya Rudolph as Michelle Obama
- Darrell Hammond as Bill Clinton
- Will Ferrell as George W. Bush
- Dana Carvey as George H.W. Bush
- Dan Aykroyd as Jimmy Carter
- Chevy Chase as Gerald Ford
- Jim Carrey as Ronal Regan
Ron Howard directed it.
In the video, the ex-presidents, consisting of mostly Saturday Night Live alumni (except for Jim Carrey, who steals the show as Reagan), urge Armisen’s Obama to take on the banks who have been lobbying Congress for scaled-back financial reform. In the end, Carrey’s Ronald Reagan advises Obama to essentially grow a pair and “push the Consumer Protection Agency through.”
Despite the ‘serious’ message, the video is peppered with some excellent gags, including a classic prat fall by Chevy Chase’s Gerald Ford. Darrell Hammond’s Bill Clinton unabashedly hits on Maya Rudolph’s Michelle Obama as he not-too-subtly smokes a cigar. Aykroyd’s Jimmy Carter is a tiny bit of a stretch, but both Dana Carvey and Will Ferrell are spot-on as usual.
