Science is now confirming what I have known for quite some time: Facebook attracts a higher-end clientele than MySpace. While Facebook is the place to connect with old classmates and network with work colleagues, MySpace has become the destitute underground rave club filled with unknown bands and seedy characters in search of fame, and (paying) reality TV gigs. This coterie of ne'er-do-wells seem drawn to the social network like moths to a tiki torch.
As CNN reported, "A recent study by market research firm Nielsen Claritas found that people in more affluent demographics are 25 percent more likely to be found friending on Facebook, while the less affluent are 37 percent more likely to connect on MySpace."
So forget about the designer sunglasses or sports car. If you want to convey worth, go Facebook. (Similarly, if you want to see how the "other half" lives, have your butler sign you up for a MySpace account. It is quite a thrill, old sport. Quite a thrill.)
