Southwest Rolls Out Fare Sale Into Early 2010

Discount king Southwest Airlines launched a nationwide air fare sale good for travel from Sept. 9 through Jan. 7, 2010.

Southwest (Stock Quote: LUV) joins Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Air Tran and other carriers that have also rolled out recent sales for Labor Day and the Fall, designed to  stimulate expected weak consumer demand. Southwest’s sale, which runs through Sept. 3 and carries a 14-day advance purchase requirement, is especially long-running, given it reaches into the first days of next year.

Sample fares, one-way before taxes and fees, include: $59 Baltimore-Boston; $86 Chicago-Washington, D.C.; $109 Denver-New York. There are blackout dates around holidays, and Friday and Sunday travel is not covered by the sale.

As always with fare sales, not all seats are included in the sale, and ones that are tend to sell fast, so travelers should be pro-active and quick in order to score the best deals. Details are posted on the airline’s Web site.
