Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide (HOT), the White Plains, NY-based hotel company, is discounting rooms as much as 50 percent at hundreds of properties in a sale that ends at midnight tonight EDT.
The sale is the latest in a spate of travel industry deals intended to stimulate flagging consumer demand and drive sales through the rest of summer and into the fall.
Starwood’s sale covers hundreds of hotels that the company runs under a number of brands: Sheraton, Westin, W, Le Meridien, St. Regis and Four Points among them. The sale is good for travel through Oct. 12.
As usual with big sales, the number of rooms covered by the lowest prices is limited, so booking early is recommended.
For the nimble and flexible, savings can be substantial. The travel search engine TravelZoo test-booked some rooms and found examples such as the W New Orleans offering rooms from $89 for selected periods and the Westin St. Francis, in San Francisco, offering rooms for $139 for stays on Thursdays through Sundays on Aug. 13-16 and other dates.
