Looking for a Job? Try Volunteering

Giving a job search your all is imperative when you've been laid off in a weak job market, and finding paid work is your first priority. But wouldn't you devote a few hours each week to something else, if it would mean making yourself even more marketable?

Spending ten or so hours each week as a volunteer will work wonders for your psyche and give your otherwise stagnant resume a boost. Seek out an organization that interests you and find out how you can lend your extra time. Volunteering will get you out of the house and break up the (often frustrating) job hunting process, and it will give you a fulfilling experience during a standstill time in your life. Plus, employers will appreciate that you utilized your time in a positive way. In other words, volunteering can only make you a more dynamic candidate.

What are you waiting for?
