NEW YORK (MainStreet) – Grizzly bears and polar bears are savage beasts rightly feared by mankind. But now there’s another kind of bear that could prove hazardous to your health: The humble gummy bear.
The Food and Drug Administration announced a recall on Wednesday of Sunrise Assorted Flavor gummy bears sold at Winn-Dixie stores in Florida and Louisiana. The recall was prompted by fears that the candies could be contaminated by metal, though the company says that no illnesses have been reported.
The other good news is that the recall is very limited in scope. The recalled gummy bears came from the self-serve bulk area of just five Winn-Dixie locations, which are listed in the FDA’s recall notice. A company spokesperson says that if you’ve purchased gummy bears from one of those locations, you should return them to the store for a full refund, “no questions asked.” However, it’s worth noting that the candy affected by the recall was sold between Nov. 14 to Dec. 13, so most people have probably already eaten their purchases.
If you have any questions about the recall, you can call the company at 1-866-WINN-DIXIE.
