Recall Roundup: Target Stools & Build-a-Bear Pins

NEW YORK (MainStreet) — Just in time for the weekend, two national retailers have recalled their products.

First, Target (Stock Quote: TGT) is recalling approximately 206,000 wooden step stools for posing a fall hazard.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, which announced the recall Thursday, Target has received 26 reports of the stools breaking or collapsing. Fourteen incidents involved children, seven involved adults, and in five of the incidents the user’s age was unknown.

Two adults fractured their wrists, with one also fracturing her hip and pelvis. Another adult and six children were scraped and bruised.

The recalled products were sold nationwide as “Step Stools With Storage” under the brand names Circo and Do Your Room from January 2007 through October 2010. The stools were priced between $25 and $30. The stools, which have two steps, come in natural, natural and red and white and honey colors.

The Circo step stool has a lid on the bottom step that lifts for storage, while DYR step stool has a lid on the top step that lifts for storage. The Circo or DYR brand name and UPC numbers are printed on a label underneath the step stool.

Find a complete list of make and model numbers for the recalled step stools on the CPSC’s website.

The CPSC advises consumers to stop using the step stools immediately and return them to any Target store for a full refund. For additional questions, consumers can call Target at (800) 440-0680 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. CDT Monday through Friday, or visit its website.

Next up is Build-a-Bear, which is recalling 26,500 lapel pins as the paint on the pins has an excessive amount of lead that is prohibited under federal law. No injuries have been associated with this recall.
