Credit Card Rates Edge Up Over Weekend

CreditCards.com said Barclays raised the rates for its U.S. Airways Premier World MasterCard to a range of 15.99% to 24.99%, from 15.24% to 18.24% The actual rate a customer is charged would be based on personal credit history.

For the first time in a year, Creditcards.com said Barclays also increased the annual percentage rate for its upscale Visa Black Card — which comes with perks like special access to events and a concierge service — to 14.99% from 13.24%.

CreditCards.com's rate survey is conducted using offer data from the top U.S. card issuers' websites. Among the nine card categories, average annual percentage rates rose in three and held steady in six.

The national average rate rose to 14.71% from 14.68% last week. Six months ago, the average rate was 14.43%. The average is composed of 100 of the most popular credit cards in the country from dozens of U.S. banks. Introductory rates are not included.

For low interest rate cards, which are given to applicants with excellent credit ratings, the average interest rate held steady at 11.91%. Six months ago, the average was 12.04%.

For cash back cards, the average interest rate held steady at 12.48 %. Six months ago, the average was 12.63%.

For balance transfer cards, the average interest rate edged up to 12.9% from 12.82% last week. Six months ago, the average was 12.93%.
