NEW YORK (MainStreet) – With Christmas in the rear-view mirror, the after-Christmas shopping season is in full swing. Deal hunters turned out to the stores and malls Sunday despite a blizzard that buried the East Coast, and it’s still possible to save on many commonly-discounted post-Christmas items.
If you have gift cards you want to redeem – or just want to find some deals – here are a few of the stores and major retailers offering big end-of-year clearance sales.
Wal-Mart is discounting nearly 1,300 items on its website, with many items also available in stores. Big discounts include this women’s belted coat for $28 (marked down from $40), plus home items like this 10-piece cookware set for $199 (marked down from $249).
From now until Jan. 2, Kohl’s is having its “After Christmas Blitz & Clearance,” which is apparently supposed to sound like “Blitzen” when you say it out loud. While we’re not sure why the retailer would name its sale after one of the lesser-known reindeer, you can get up to 70% off select apparel and home goods. There are also two-day specials available through Monday, and you can get 15% off your entire online purchase through Tuesday with the coupon code HOHOHO15.
Take 30%-60% off clearance items at Target. Included in the sale are toys like Monopoly Family Edition for just $4.88 (marked down from $13.99), Christmas decorations like this 225-piece tree decorating kit for $34.65 (marked down from $99), and summer clearance items for those who really like to plan ahead.
Clearance items at JC Penney run the gamut from apparel to toys to furniture, and the retailer has men’s sweaters starting as low as $9.99. SlickDeals.net points to the coupon codes ITSOVER and CLEARANCE, which both allow you to take $10 off any purchase of $25 or more.
It’s not just the brick-and-mortar retailers offering year-end discounts. Amazon has oodles of year-end deals, including this Citizen’s Eco-Drive watch for $129 (marked down from $215), the complete first season of HBO’s True Blood for $19.99 (originally $59.99) and this 40-inch Toshiba TV for $503.54 (originally $849.99).
