Why Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG) Stock Is Up in After-Hours Trading Today

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Chipotle Mexican Grill  (CMG) surged in after-hours trading on Monday after the company reported second-quarter earnings that smashed analysts' expectations.

Chipotle reported earnings per share of $110.3 million, or $3.50 per diluted share, up from $87.9 million, or $2.82 per diluted share, in the same period one year earlier. Revenue increased 28.6% year over year to $1.05 billion. Analysts had expected earnings of $3.08 a share on revenue of $988.94 million. 

The stock was up 7.81% to $636 at 4:09 p.m.
