Books-A-Million, Inc. (NASDAQ:BAMM) announces today its nationwide Community Book Drive, which ended July 5, was a resounding success.

“Hosting a book drive in early summer is a great way for us to support schools so they have new, exciting resources available for students when they return to school in the fall,” said Terrance Finley, President and Chief Executive Officer of Books-A-Million. “Focusing our book drive locally lets us better address the needs of the individual schools in each community we serve,” he stated.

The program began in early June with all 258 Books-A-Million stores nationwide selecting a K-12 grade school in their community. The selected schools provided the local Books-A-Million with a list of book titles they would like for their classrooms. Customers then had the opportunity to donate one of the requested books to the chosen school.

“Many of the children in our schools do not have books in their homes,” said Carol Fey, Executive Director of Communities in Schools of Marietta/Cobb County, Inc. (GA). “Over 700 students have already received books during our school distributions and are thrilled to have the opportunity to take a book of their own home,” she stated.

“We have been reaching out to the community to help us provide underprivileged children with summer reading materials,” said Amanda Ruggs, Educational Development Chair of the Mobile (AL) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. “The response from Books-A-Million was overwhelming, not to mention to see the employees get involved was amazing,” she stated.

Books-A-Million stores have hosted a number of book drives in recent years that have proven very successful. The company will continue this local community support by holding another book drive in all 258 of its stores near the end of the year. This second drive is currently planned for mid-November and will focus on other local and non-profit organizations, just in time for the Holidays.
