Highlights from the ratings report include:
  • CRV has underperformed the S&P 500 Index, declining 8.58% from its price level of one year ago. The fact that the stock is now selling for less than others in its industry in relation to its current earnings is not reason enough to justify a buy rating at this time.
  • The gross profit margin for COAST DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS is rather low; currently it is at 17.62%. Regardless of CRV's low profit margin, it has managed to increase from the same period last year. Despite the mixed results of the gross profit margin, the net profit margin of -2.96% trails the industry average.
  • The return on equity has improved slightly when compared to the same quarter one year prior. This can be construed as a modest strength in the organization. Compared to other companies in the Distributors industry and the overall market, COAST DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS's return on equity significantly trails that of both the industry average and the S&P 500.
  • CRV, with its decline in revenue, underperformed when compared the industry average of 12.4%. Since the same quarter one year prior, revenues slightly dropped by 2.1%. The declining revenue has not hurt the company's bottom line, with increasing earnings per share.
  • CRV's debt-to-equity ratio of 0.66 is somewhat low overall, but it is high when compared to the industry average, implying that the management of the debt levels should be evaluated further. Regardless of the somewhat mixed results with the debt-to-equity ratio, the company's quick ratio of 1.45 is sturdy.

The Coast Distribution System, Inc. Coast Distribution System has a market cap of $16.4 million and is part of the services sector and wholesale industry. Shares are down 5.2% year to date as of the close of trading on Wednesday.
