Why Pier 1 Imports (PIR) Stock Is Dropping In Pre-Market Trading Today

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Pier 1 Imports (PIR) shares are down -10.1% to $16.41 on Thursday following the release of the company's first quarter earnings results.

The decorative home furnishings retailer reported earnings of 16 cents per diluted share, 4 cents worst than what analysts anticipated.

Revenue for the quarter rose 6.2% over the previous year to $$419.1 million, also falling short of analysts $423.36 million forecast.

The company also lowered its guidance for the fiscal year to between $1.14 - $1.22 from $1.16-1.24.

We feel these strengths outweigh the fact that the company has had sub par growth in net income."
