The 10 Richest Soccer Players Of The 2014 World Cup

The 2014 FIFA World Cup is in full swing. Teams from 32 nations are competing in the games which are held in 12 host cities during the qualifying rounds.

TheStreet.com took a close look at the Top 10 soccer players with the highest net worth using data from Wealth-X.

Their wealth ranges from $50 million to $230 million.

England has the most players on the list, while the U.S. failed to make the cut.

Brazil, the 2014 host country, also failed to place a player in the top 10 although it's worth noting that its star player, known as 'Neymar,' has an estimated net worth of $25 million.

Here are the rankings:

10. Gianluigi Buffon
Country: Italy
Net Worth: $50 million

Italy's Gianluigi Buffon is the only goalkeeper on the list which primarily consists of midfielders or strikers.

Born in Carrara, Italy, Gianluigi Buffon began playing football as part of the Parma Youth League in the early 1990s.

He is widely considered to be one of the most dominant and successful goalkeepers in the history of the game.

9.   Fernando Torres
      Country: Spain
      Net Worth: $50 million

Fernando Torres

During the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Fernando Torres came in as a substitute in the final as Spain won for the first time with a 1-0 victory over the Netherlands. 

The striker's speed and positioning have been widely acknowledged as the main part of his game.

Despite Spain winning the 2010 World Cup, he is the only ultra wealthy footballer on the list from his country.

8.   Steven Gerrard
      Country: England
      Net Worth: $55 million

Steven Gerrard

Steven G. Gerrard is a midfielder who made his international debut in 2000.

During the 2005 FIFA World Cup he was was the team's top goalscorer with two goals.

At the 2010 FIFA World Cup, he captained his country in the absence of the regular captain Rio Ferdinand, who missed the tournament because of injury.

7.    Frank Lampard
       Country: England
       Net Worth: $60 million

Frank Lampard

Frank J. Lampard is an English professional footballer who plays as a central midfielder for the national team.

He was voted "England Player of the Year" for two consecutive years in 2004 and 2005. 

As England exited the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Lampard had already achieved the record of having made 37 shots on a goal without scoring in a World Cup tournament, more than any other player since 1966, according to The Guardian.

6.    Yaya Toure
       Country:  Cote'Divoire (Ivory Coast)
       Net Worth: $70 million

Yaya Toure

Yaya Toure is an Ivorian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for English club Manchester City and the Ivory Coast national team.

He was voted "African Footballer of the Year" for three consecutive years from 2011 to 2013.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup is Toure's third appearance during the competition where he has already lead his team in a victory against Japan.

Samuel Eto'o

Although Samuel Eto'o, aged 33, is at the end of his career, he remains an important part of the Cameroon team.

He's the winner of more honors than any other African footballer, past or present, according to FIFA.

Eto'o was ultimately unable to play in the 2014 FIFA World Cup match against Croatia due to a knee injury.
