NXP Semiconductor NV (NXPI): Today's Featured Technology Winner

NXP Semiconductor ( NXPI) pushed the Technology sector higher today making it today's featured technology winner. The sector as a whole closed the day down 2.1%. By the end of trading, NXP Semiconductor rose $1.14 (2.0%) to $58.09 on heavy volume. Throughout the day, 5,287,167 shares of NXP Semiconductor exchanged hands as compared to its average daily volume of 3,336,500 shares. The stock ranged in a price between $57.43-$60.31 after having opened the day at $59.12 as compared to the previous trading day's close of $56.95. Other companies within the Technology sector that increased today were: Elephant Talk Communications ( ETAK), up 18.9%, EXFO ( EXFO), up 11.5%, Identive Group ( INVE), up 10.5% and Schmitt Industries ( SMIT), up 9.8%.

NXP Semiconductors N.V. provides high performance mixed signal and standard product solutions for radio frequency (RF), analog, power management, interface, security, and digital processing products worldwide. NXP Semiconductor has a market cap of $14.2 billion and is part of the electronics industry. Shares are up 24.0% year to date as of the close of trading on Tuesday. Currently there are 10 analysts that rate NXP Semiconductor a buy, no analysts rate it a sell, and 2 rate it a hold.

TheStreet Ratings rates NXP Semiconductor as a hold. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its revenue growth, notable return on equity and impressive record of earnings per share growth. However, as a counter to these strengths, we find that the company has favored debt over equity in the management of its balance sheet.

On the negative front, Plug Power ( PLUG), down 23.9%, Sungy Mobile Ltd ADR ( GOMO), down 23.3%, Silicom ( SILC), down 14.3% and ReneSola ( SOL), down 14.0% , were all laggards within the technology sector with Baidu ( BIDU) being today's technology sector laggard.
